Nissan lighting

X-Trail, Note, Sylphy, Juke, Dualis and others

The X-Trail is the Nissan we work on most. Its headlight is large enough to take two projectors per side, which gives a strong low beam and a separate high beam.

Smaller Nissans such as the Note have compact reflector headlights. They need a smaller projector and careful fitting, but the improvement is just as clear.

Most cars in Kenya arrive as used imports that are already several years old. Their headlights have had years of sun before the first Kenyan owner switches them on, which is why lens haze and tired light sources are so common here.

Model by model

What each Nissan has, and what we suggest

Factory lighting varies by grade and year. This is a guide. We confirm what your car has when we see it or a photo of it.

X-Trail T31 (2007 to 2013)

From the factory

Halogen reflector headlights on most grades, xenon on higher grades.

What we suggest

Twin projectors fit well in this housing. The cream X-Trail in our photos has this setup, with LED fog lights below.

X-Trail T32 (2013 onwards)

From the factory

Halogen projector on lower grades, LED on higher grades.

What we suggest

Bi-LED projector in place of the halogen unit. LED-grade cars usually only need lens care.

Note, March, Tiida

From the factory

Halogen reflector headlights.

What we suggest

Compact projector retrofit, plus restoration where the lens has hazed.

Sylphy, Teana, Dualis, Juke

From the factory

Halogen on most, xenon on some grades.

What we suggest

Projector retrofit or replacement, depending on what the car has.

What goes wrong

Lighting faults we see on Nissan

1

Dull reflector headlights on the T31

A wide, shallow reflector that was adequate when new and is poor after years of heat.

2

Hazy lenses

As on most cars of this age, the outside of the lens has clouded.

3

Glare from LED bulb swaps

LED bulbs in the T31 reflector throw light everywhere. A projector controls it.

Questions

Nissan owners ask

Why two projectors on an X-Trail?+

The housing has room for them. One handles low beam and the second adds to the high beam, so you get more light where you need it at speed.

Can a Note take a projector?+

Yes, with a smaller projector. Send us the year and a photo of the headlight.

Tell us the car. We will tell you what it needs.

Send the make, model and year, and whether you want a restoration or an upgrade. You will get a price before any work starts.
